Where my morning went
Sep. 12th, 2011 07:51 amWell, the bits of it before reasonable people call it morning. I slept, but not until wake up time.
Someone mentioned that Library Thing now has a column for putting in where you got a book, so I just spent hours telling it where I bought things.
I have 1,763 books.
405 Inherited from Dad
169 Big Finish subscription
128 The Television and Movie Store, 2 Millennium Plain, Norwich, NR2 1TF
79 Fantasy & SF Book Club
There's probably more from the F&SF book club, but so far I'm remembering by which authors I blame them for, and roughly which year books were made in. Also if it's TV tie-in tat that I'd hope I'd have the willpower to have walked away from in a shop.
I'm kind of shocked how many weren't inherited. Somewhere in the back of my mind dad has All The Books, you know? Except I knew he sold a bunch of them before.
The books from Big Finish and at least half from the TV&Movie Store are audiobooks, but they have ISBNs so they go in the catalog just fine.
DVDs, not so simples.
The TV & Movie Store things were usually acquired in sets of three as the new Doctor Who or Torchwood things came in.
There are 457 books that have been properly cataloged into the TV tie-in collection.
... I have more TV tie-in books than inherited books. My interests, they are showing.
It is frustrating me that I can't remember which books I bought in Colchester and which in Dereham. Or when I started buying in Norwich for preference. The Colchester books were up until age 11, except for ones acquired somewhere in Kent. The Dereham books are age 12 onwards, until I went to mostly online books. Then there was a phase of my route home going through Borders in Norwich and there should be a ton of books I picked up on the way through there. I can't remember which ones though, mostly.
I do remember which two I bought on the way home from Stonehenge, or from watching Hamlet.
It's like a geographical map of my life, in books.
:-)
