Doctor Who: The Lodger

I watched this. It took me two tries. First time I was watching between my fingers. Scary I can handle, alien is no problem, but normality? *shudders* It's the embarrassment thing. When the Doctor is being Doctor-y because that's how he is then it's not embarrassing and it's fun and no problem. When he's really trying and he's... being very Doctor-y, well, that's all *hides* from sympathy, because really, days like that, I live them. Not that I've tried being a normal bloke, but normal in any measure, is not so easy. So the first time through I turned the sound off and I watched through my fingers and some bits I was just peeking at the subtitles with the whole rest of the screen covered and feeling all squirmy. Rote learned social rituals with contextual fail? So been there. Asperger's is like being alien wherever you are. Which the Doctor manages quite a lot even in places he's been back to a billion times, hence the identification. Ooops wrong planet syndrome. So, squirmy.
Ignoring all that
That was fun. Being funny and it worked. Being scary and it worked too. Although I'm not sure how the bit with the cat worked. I could see there were cat flaps to let the cat spy in, but apparently they were imaginary cat flaps and imaginary stairs and in that case what was the cat spying on? Imaginary flat? Well, that would be what the Doctor said didn't make sense when he was talking to the cat. But still.
I think I read this story in a comic but there it was 10 and Mickey and Mickey making the toothbrush-sonic mistake and his teeth fell out. If I imagined that I have a weird imagination. Yet I have not read comics, generally, unless one was lying around somewhere.
The idea that the Doctor would walk in and your life is less fun because he's better at everything than you, that's a good one. Because it's all very well him opening up a universe of possibilities, but it's a whole other thing him waltzing in and replacing you in the football team.
PS: Football, rules of, imperfect understanding of.
Which is even funnier knowing actor things.
Doctor in an office. I kept thinking of Jack's stated Thing for offices. Ways to break Jack's brain ...
I like what the Doctor would shout if he brought a girlfriend or boyfriend back to his room.
The Doctor looking for an on switch on the screwdriver is funny but silly, because he has spent just a teensy bit of time in the 20th century including a long time being frustrated with its technology, so he's probably familiar with the tools. But that might be a long time ago in his life. You never know, he might have spent a spare century between episodes with the Specials or something. No, wait, he said 907. But then again we don't know what planet he's counting on.
I read the TARDIS book that just came out. It's a little bit interesting and mostly things I already knew but with illustrations. It says Gallifrey has twin suns. I quite liked the theory I read somewhere that it had triple suns and a chaotic orbit, just because I like chaos. But twin suns is fun too.
The end bit with the ring box... I wish to know what she was thinking. You could tell she was Shocked and Thinking, but I wish to know what. Because if she found a random engagement ring in the Doctor's pocket there's a number of misunderstandings that could lead to Shocked and Thinking, and mining them for comedy first would be one way to go, but I hope she was thinking of Rory. But we don't know she was. So I wish to know.
I like the Next Week. Things get Big. :-)
Fun episode, and a bit like pacing off a run up for a big leap. Build up done now, time to run.
