I just rewatched A Good Man Goes to War.
Which of course led to rewatching Let's Kill Hitler and The Wedding of River Song.
but I had decided to focus on just that first episode for my dissertation.

... what was I thinking? I mean, yes, it's great, I can watch that all year and find a bazillion words to write about it, but... all the characters! Focus on gender, leads to themes of faith and war and child soldiers and also storytelling, Read more... )

Right then. No point flapping at half past one in the morning.

The episodes are really very good.
... also, I still can't watch them without my sonic in hand. I, er, may have to bring it to the presentation. Possibly also my vortex manipulator.

The trouble with being part time is every year I meet a new group of people and have to get up and do a speaking exam in front of them. And the trouble with nobody turning up for lessons this semester is I haven't really spent much time in the same classroom as these people. So it will feel like standing up in front of strangers. Who I already stutter in front of when I'm just answering questions in class. :-p

I will bring my toys and my shinies and I will speak out loud and call it a win.

... speaking out loud and making sense would be a bonus.

Dear Fandom(s):
Please don't try to write Scottish.

if you happen to be from Scotland and speak in the same manner as your characters, you get a pass. can't argue with that one.

But for the rest of the world: Please, please, stop mangling the English language to make it look like it has a funny accent. Your accent looks funny from here. (Unless you're in Norfolk too, in which case you already know all the jokes as suggest your accent looks funny from everywhere else.) The thing about written English is, it's all written pretty much the same way. Wherever you are. Seriously.

Plus, when you use the funny spelling for the Scotsman but not for the whole rest of the world, what's up with that? Read more... )

Just, really, readers can fill the accent in. We don't need the visual cues.

... I know, if I ruled the world pronouncements, not actually helpful.
... *big sigh*...

Ouch

I think I punched myself in the wrist in my sleep.
I woke up ouching and punching the pillow a lot.
I'd dreamed someone gave my brother a black eye so I broke a rail out of the stair rails and tried to beat the crap out of him, which wasn't so much easy when he was like a foot taller than me.
I know there's supposed to be a switch in your head that makes you not act out your dreams, but mine doesn't work so very well. I don't sleep walk, I just sleep fight. Well, as far as I know. I've never woken myself up walking around bumping into things, just punching the furniture.
I haven't hurt myself lately though, not since I got the bed with the walls and put pillows all around it.
Before that, not so much good. One time I cut the back of my hand open flicking ninja stars at people who were attacking Connor MacLeod. I hit the edge of the bedside cabinet.
Today my wrist feels okay now but my thumb has some angles it's not happy about.

... I don't know whether to *sigh* or *facepalm*. It's not like it's anything I do on purpose or can do anything more about.

This though is why I don't think I'll be sharing a bed with someone for sleeping purposes, like, ever. I've been doing this since I was a small kid, it don't seem likely to wear off. When it's only me I can put up with it, as long as there's nobody else in range.

I dreamed I was chasing knee high dinosaurs in a train. They were little two legs with long tails, and everyone was all 'aaargh, raptors!', but really they were looking for somewhere safe for their eggs in this weird rattly cave. So it worked out nice.

The guy I dreamed crawling along the train in front of me looking under all the seats was a dancer who looked kind of like John Leguizamo. He'd clearly dressed for lower light levels and did not seem to be aware that his trousers were kind of gauzy and see through. So I mentioned it, and when he didn't quite believe me cause he couldn't see through them from his angle, I said he was wearing a thong. I did not say out loud that it was clearly lace and accompanied by suspenders and lace top stockings. White ones with little roses at the top that I last saw in a fashion game as bridal undergarments. Underneath black trousers and a shirt with silver piping and really nice jet buttons. And you could only see through it some of the time from some angles, so you kept wondering if you really saw that, and checking.

Dear subconscious: nice one, thanks.

I rewatched The Aztecs.

I can think of some things to say if I'm studying this one, but not a whole enthusiastic lot, like I can for more recent episodes. Splitting my dissertation between this one and the recent one... I don't know. Unequal parts maybe? Or maybe I'll think of more to say about it when I poke it more.

I keep changing my mind about what episodes to study. Is no helpful.

... yet it does tend to lead to watching lots of good stuff :-)
