Settlers: Heritage of Kings
Feb. 10th, 2014 10:28 amAnnoying game keeps telling me I won.
I didn't want to win, I wanted to build.
*sulks*
... also, wants the alien planet Stargate style version...
... except I also kind of hate this game. I think I just played it for ten hours in a row, but, I don't think I like it. Stupid thing made of fiddly buttons. Can't get the soldiers fighting bit to work properly. I know what I want them to do - archers protect the artillery advance, spears protect both from cavalry charges, roll forward slowly while building lots of auto firing watchtowers behind them, find the enemy keep and kabooms it. What I can actually get them to do? Make as many soldiers of all types as possible, select them all, send them to vaguely the right map area, hope they don't all die. They have all sorts of clever options supposed to change their behaviour, but they're too busy dying for me to learn what they are, let alone set them right. Stupid things. Also, they should cost more the more you have to recruit the same sort, because it would take either greed or idiocy to fling themselves into combat where their predecessors had been spent as profligately as I can manage. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Also I can't figure out how to select just the serfs, to make them build more stuff or to make them run away, so they just die a lot because they get muddled in with the soldiers. That's not really a mistake they would make, if orders involved shouting at them rather than trying to select them with stupid clicky buttons.
The 'hero' abilities are rubbish too. Can't get them to actually do anything noticeable anyway. Boo.
I like making the pretty buildings, but that's about it.
... this probably won't stop me playing it some more.
... I need to do things that are far less boring.
On the plus side I'm back round to being awake in the mornings, so shortly the doing of things will get far simpler. Seeing as there isn't much to do at 0300 around here.
Also, I think 100% of the playable characters are blokes.
There's one girl in the story parts so far, but that was his mum, and she was only there so she could die.
That's pretty pathetic.
Maybe I should go back to playing Sims but buy the newer version with more pretty things.
