This morning I was dreaming I was leading a group of people who needed to get offworld in a hurry, so we signed up with a mercenary company. They were space marines in power armour, we'd brought swords and longbows. But then we managed to be impressive with them, so they agreed they'd train us up if we showed them how to do that with just bent sticks. Plus medieval weapons are much easier on the infrastructure and sneak past most monitoring methods, especially the wooden ones, so we had a use when power armour and potentially hull piercing projectiles were not quite what they wanted.
The leader of the mercs was an ornery old gray hair lady called Queen. In power armour. Which matched her hair. So when she asked what to call me I said Bishop, because chess obvs. So my asleep personas include Reverend, Bishop and Cardinal. I have a theme.
The leader of my archers was Methos. Well, of one group, the other was led by one sandy haired dude I couldn't quite see clearly; logically he should be Hawkeye, but it's entirely possible he was Andrew Wells, which would go poorly. There were a lot of other people who reckoned they could lead archers but there were not in fact enough bows for more than two groups.
Also, since we were not in fact mercenaries as such, we were organising as we went along, so everyone with the balls to introduce themselves as Commander Whatsit or Lieutenant Soandso got written down as such, with pay and perks to match. So I was standing right next to the table giving people a hard stare to make sure they kept it reasonable. I couldn't say much though, since I had become their leader by virtue of walking up to Queen and introducing myself as such.
... potential for chaos, high. But plan is Vorkosigan approved.
See, I have dreams like that, and then I wake up, and have panic attacks about using the sodding phone.
I'm going to have to give up on today because I like breathing.
I've done the Tuesday jobs and the Monday jobs, because Monday jobs can't be done on bank holiday Monday, and I'll just have to line the rest of the jobs up for other days this week.
