I've been reading a bunch of David Gemmell books in a row. Heroic fantasy, I guess. The might of armies coming down to the defiance of individuals. I like a lot of what it has to say about not letting anger run away with you, and how acts of love nourish the world, but it do get wearying to read because as far as I can tell every last book should have *Trigger Warning: Rape* written across it.

the thing about computers that bothers me every single time it happens is when something updates and suddenly everything looks different. Not very different, just different. And maybe some of the key shortcuts change a tiny bit, or some website has a brilliant idea to use one of the common ones to mean something else entirely. And the buttons are now about an inch moved than they used to be. And suddenly, instead of just using your computer, you're thinking about using your computer, and every single twitch is something that has to cross your mind first. And, as mentioned, it just looks... different.

Why? Why even?

I mean, nothing else does this. You do not go home of an evening and find the taps are an inch taller and the wallpaper is a slightly different shade of blue and the borders are blue instead of grey now. This is not a thing with long historical precedent.

But as soon as its computers, whoosh, new things! New! Different!

Without so much as a by your leave.

Who even thinks this is a good idea?

And while I am familiar with the concept of upgrades meaning things are better, and would happily take all the security upgrades they can throw, I fail to see why this always means changing the decor around again again again.

Really, I would be fine with my computer looking pretty much like it did in the 90s, just maybe switching up the wallpaper. Why is that not an option?

... yeah, okay, I know, I just... grumph.
