Today's dream featured a shapeshifter who chose to look like Robert Downey Jr and Jeremy Renner.
Because if you could, why wouldn't you?

... well, to run away after we nearly captured him.
... and then quite possibly to come back and have a conversation with me as an old blind lady who did radio/podcast interviews and had been around a lot the whole time. Because sticking your nose in things wearing one of the most famous faces in the world is a whole lot harder. We weren't sure on that one though, it was just the way she turned up after he was 'gone' and went on about how sad it was nobody trusted him, and him pregnant too.

He was at least 500 years old, and possibly 5000, or even older depending. There was a suggestion he was the force that made birds all plural and various, instead of little drab camouflaged things that looked all military matching. He was for certain one of the old and powerful archetypes. I tried to explain him and went looking for a name. Not a Joker, that's just for card games, and part of a pack besides. More of a Jack.

There's a million stories about Jack, he gets everywhere.

Today's dreams low on coherence but very high on pretty.

And then I got woke up by the delivery guy, for the third day in a row. And while I was all grumping after closing the door, grump grump why so early, the alarm went off for 1057am and I had to notice it was not in fact early and I probably should have been awake already.

But now I have Agent Carter and Star Trek Enterprise the latest Diane Duane book, so, yaays.

... now I have to decide if I should interrupt my Angel rewatch to watch Agent Carter.
... nope, now I have to decide when...

The more I read Game of Thrones the more convinced I am that everyone's going to starve to death.
Like, that's the big ending, all this pissing about with who wears a crown means nothing, winter is coming, they starve, they freeze, they die.

And while that's certainly a salutary lesson
I don't know as I need to keep reading them getting there.

Also I keep being distracted by trying to figure out how the winters are so variable. It's not like I can do orbits in my head it's just distracting whenever my brain starts pondering it and tries. Google suggests the author has said it's just magic, which is a very unsatisfying answer that only gets a 'yeah but' and a *sigh*.

When I plan my space colonies a lot more planning needs to go into food planning than I am strictly speaking capable of. I mostly put a wiggly line around it and decide to pick up a book or three eventually. I don't know what books yet though, self sufficient farming for planetary scale beginners doesn't seem to be a category.

Stargate Atlantis fic is always going on missions to get more foods. Did the TV series actually do that? Is setting up a reasonable system of trade a thing they did or a thing fic got exasperated they didn't do?

... I bet the latter. Science fiction series tend to get really bored with infrastructure or diplomacy and sod off to blow things up. It's quite annoying.

So I guess I like the challenges these contenders for the throne are having to face - food supply, hostile locals who don't feel particularly liberated thank you very much, food, shelter, food, water, food, transport, and the oncoming dark season that will mean even less food. Those seem like reasonable things to spend books on. It's just the feeling of inevitability about the whole thing where they've trashed all possible solutions and they're just going to die messy.

Stating the problem is not, after all, the difficult bit.
