beccaelizabeth: fizzgig from The Dark Crystal is having a shouty tantrum made of sharp teeth. (tantrum)
A recurring theme of my dreams is trying to explain a thing to people while they talk over me and otherwise refuse to listen
often in ways that will lead to violence or other destruction
and I am just. So Done. I mean, completely, I'm not going back to sleep right now because I'll have that fucking dream again, done.

My power fantasy stories are where I get to make a speech and people actually listen without interrupting and then, wonder of wonders, agree with me and Dont Do The Thing.

Like the dreams involving winning big sword fights are in no way as satisfying as this. Someone somewhere fucking listening.

So that's why I'm not sleeping right now. Not strictly speaking nightmares. Just so fucking frustrated that the world continues being world like whether or not I speak.

I consume too much one way media. The people on the tv never listen. I need to do something interactive instead.

... hi internet, I'm sure y'all will appreciate the frustrated lectures.

This rant brought to you by a dream set after second season Buffy where some perfectly average people hunted and vigilante killed a homeless guy for killing her and weren't even sorry when she turned up and had not in fact been dead.

I am sick of vigilantes right now. No checks and balances just stacks up the worst in people. We need to slow down and listen.

But it could be from dreams on far too many nights.

Gah.

The problem with getting enthusiastic about a Yuletide fandom is you can set out to read all the fic but it'll still be January when you have in fact read all the fic.

I really should read more about a movie before I watch, because now I'm feeling very tense. And that was nastier than I expected from a 15.

I can see what they were doing with that, it had a theme and like artistic metaphor bits, but it was darker and messier than I would want to watch again. So that's going in the get rid pile.

... I realise when the point is to watch people beat up on each other it might seem strange to object to certain specific ways of showing violence and consequences, but, I am going to have to watch something else to get this one out of my head, so, not okay.

But someone watching for different reasons might like it.

Every time I watch this I remember I keep meaning to buy the proper length edition, but no, I still only have the short one. Which is over two hours long, but I still only felt the bits that seemed hurried, it never seemed slow.

I know logically the violence in massive armies clashing is worse than the one I just watched with the two guys in a living room, but the feeling is so different. It's all heroics and cleverness, and saving the baby and the lady. And then it dumps you out looking at a plain of bodies after the battle. But then there's another scene for an ending, with actual rainbows and sunlight, and the two smartest guys pretty much acknowledging they're going to fight later but they really like each other now. So tonally it's a whole other experience.

... the one that makes you hate violence is probably more moral, really, but the one where they set the whole fleet on fire is somehow more fun. it's a wonder humans got this far...

But I really do love when he goes out to fetch arrows. That was hilarious.

I should read the book. Might take quite a lot of reading, but classics is interesting.

still a very good movie.
