There ought to be more sedoretu fic
https://fanlore.org/wiki/Sedoretu

and HP has room for some interesting stuff if Dark and Light has somewhat to do with Morning and Evening

or like if it used to and then the Dark got such a bad reputation it all fell apart and someone decides to revive it to stick society back together

My communication day has been Most Triumphant
I actually did a task that has been on the list since April
which involved one phone call and multiple texts

... that doesn't sound like a triumph but trust me it's progress.

I also did an email, and am very grateful that my first try didn't work, because somehow it tried to reply to the whole mailing list even though it was showing an individual email address. There's only two mailing lists that still send me things, I forgot how careful you have to be about that. But my second try should have worked, so, task started and waiting probably until someone gets home and checks their not work email.

communicate is Difficult and the older I get the more accumulated Errors there have been and the more I just want to hide under a blanket and be a hermit. But I'm not going to. So I win.

Also this week is City Centre Games Night Norwich and they found a venue and I have sent the venue details to the person doing the driving. Chantry hall behind wagamamas apparently. We shall find it. And then there shall be games. Though always on Facebook more people say Going than are in evidence once I get there. Still. If there's no gratings in the floor it might be safe to play the complicated game with all the fiddly parts, if the tables are big enough. It's a good game but it needs my whole table, which is two chairs on a square side, which is twice as thick as most cafe tables. And if not, Munchkin can be quite a small surface area, because cards. And I like Munchkin.

Morning of progress, win.

I have added my latest Big Finish delivery to my LibraryThing
and only two discs don't fit on the shelf appointed to the unlistened stuff
... so I shall be listening to Torchwood some time today.

In related news, all my Most Similar libraries on LT seem to be fellow Big Finish subscribers.
... it's 239 books the same in the monthly range alone, I guess that's a lot of same.

Happy feeling: new things, and correct catalog!
... even if I did have to fix Amazon's version and do one manually because Mess.

Ao3 has been down All Day
(possibly it is someone's sleep cycle)
(possibly things went boom in spectacular way)
(lets hope sleep)

I have a long fic to read, but it is making me realise that usually I hop around a lot.

I suspect I read shorter things whenever I get frustrated with the speed of the plot elsewhere.

Fic on Ao3 can get really, really long
and even the good stuff isn't always paced like a novel.

I think sometimes it's trying to be a whole season of TV?
But the pacing for that isn't there either.

We just tend to get A Lot of story out of our favourite canon sources, and then you sit down and write a long fic and realise how many words it takes to cover that much plot, and compare it to say comics or TV or film and it all comes out different, and then just, we have no limits, we can keep going and going and going.

Which is great, except, it doesn't always do the... push. Like, TV with commercial breaks has a little cliffhanger or tension to resolve before the break, to make you come back after the break. But people who write for the BBC have said this is still a good idea even without the breaks. Because it pull pushes you along, making you want to see the next bit and giving you a little buzz of fulfilled potential to get you energetically into the next section.

Some people change chapters to change point of view, which is cool, but then sometimes the tension doesn't pull push through the change, you get a bit of a catch up on what we didn't need to see is all, and then you're just... waiting for the slack to wear off and the action to come back?

I am not criticising that which is written for love, have at it, I'm just saying
pull push, pacing, tension and payoff
it's awesome.

And if you pace it like a soap opera, which goes on forever, then what you have is little tensions for each character, that pay off by turns, so you leave a cliffhanger with one guy to pay off a previous cliffhanger with someone else.

It's like juggling, you give each a little push and keep it on course and bring it in only to push out again.

... I haven't written for so long. I studied this stuff, but I haven't written. It has been five years since college and much longer since complete fic.

But this is what the outline is for too, the setup and payoff, the things to tide you over the commercial breaks or wait for the next post. Why do we want to see this next bit? If we don't, bit of a problem.

It's what turns a story from Lots Of Stuff Happens to a really satisfying set that feels complete.

I should do things instead of just crit them.

But I'll probably go back to the fic I was reading where I strongly suspect I've got a hundred thousand words to go and they're barely talking to each other yet.

It is Noise O'clock
because amateur music practice in the hall at the end of the building

but it is also finally that time of day when opening a window might be actually helpful
with the temperature situation.

... thus far I'm choosing to stay Too Warm.
... yes the Noise is that unmusical...

I hate to say it, but that was just boring.

I mean, it had a couple of amusing bits at the start, and some interesting grunting because Jack and John have a lot of sex, but on the whole, that was boring.

Because Read more... )

Who gets such wonderful toys and does so little with them?

I'm going to have to give this a lowish rating, and given how much of the cast is on here, it really had to work to be that bad.
