Sep. 10th, 2018 09:09 pmIt looks like I haven't written anything on here since Thursday, and since it is somehow Monday, that's weird.
But that's because I binge watched a TV show that I ended up disagreeing with so thoroughly that it hit the 'if you can't say something nice don't say anything' rule, because even though I like the characters I can't be having with the politics. And I tried to find a way to write that as could go in the tags without causing Drama, but no. So. I am going to have to mark that show up as Not For Me, and the interesting character work will not be discussed here because I just keep going off on one whenever I try.
And this follows on from listening to the 12 part Torchwood audio Aliens Among Us, where I have so many complaints it kind of ends up being 'these apples are not oranges', so again, I did not post that public. Only I feel like there were oranges on the box? Because Jack and Gwen were on the box but there is no Gwen and the story is about Jack being mostly absent. So I feel that's a Thing. But is it a Thing I want to be Drama about? I complained at the pub instead.
... not that Drama is very likely when so few people still talk here, but, you know.
So that's why it looks quiet here, I liked two things enough to watch/listen the whole of them at some length, but not enough to find anything polite to say about them when I was done.
Also I am sleeping in the daytimes and the days keep sneaking up on me. I mean it's Monday for like three more hours and I'm not ready for it to be Monday. So that's a thing.
I have been reading Pathfinder rules and thinking about characters, but what I mostly think is I want one (1) specific spell from a spell list my character cannot access unless Witch or Druid, and I don't want to play a Druid if they have Wild Shape because I am not a shapeshifter in myself, if you get what I mean, and neither do I want an animal companion, so both Witch and Druid are right out. I almost talked myself into it by thinking What If Snake but not quite. And then there's Summoners, who I don't quite get yet, but their 'companion' seems to be entirely customiseable, like shaped by the Summoner or their player, and somehow I got from there to Mr Flibble's Very Angry and just giggled a lot and did not read the rest of the Summoner rules.
They make lots of interesting plot bunnies, but I end up wanting to customise them past the point the system will allow, then going back to GURPS because there you can.
I mean I get having restrictions on spell lists, but if you can't buy them off, they're just annoying.
Also I have no gaming group so I'm only thinking up characters who would be interesting in stories or trying to reverse engineer characters from TV.
... Merlin looking older and younger could be achieved with a spell from the Druid/Witch list but Merlin himself is no Druid and has no familiar and is probably more of a dragon bloodline sorcerer, or maybe just arcane. Something bloodline ish anyway.
If all the characters on TV need high Charisma as their main stat then that explains a lot.
Like, a lot of their actions as well as the very pretty people.
Wisdom is their dump stat so much.
I read Provenance and it was Good but I have few things to say about it.
I am reading the latest Tanya Huff in the Valor verse, which is Peace now? I've forgotten the title and it's in the other room. But I'm reading it happily and will go back to it as soon as practical. Huff is good.
... also I think she watches Agents of SHIELD because there's a very minor character called Mackenzie who is Very Tall. Like, it could be a coincidence, but it's fun.
I have so many things to read and watch and listen. And so few people to talk with about them after. I feel like I'm all read no write lately.
... yes it has been five years since college and I haven't written anything, so that makes sense, but, I should fix it.
That was my weekend though. And week. Listen, watch, read, repeat.
Pretty cool.
