So far today I have started reading an Adventure, got distracted imaginary designing a character, decided I would be a dwarf because age, decided if I was playing a dwarf I must acquire a Proper Dwarf Beard, and ended up on etsy looking up beard hats.

... this is how my brain works all the tiiiiime...

*sigh*

okay, adventure take 2

because it is indeed an exciting looking adventure

Spoilers for the Rise of the Runelords adventure under the cut.

I am taking a short break from reading about the adventure
due to discovering Things That Make Me Nope.

Like, I like the bit where adventurers have to fight off a big attack, Read more... )

So this is the problem with Adventures as written by other people: too very scary.

Like I don't mind what attacks the party as long as we've got a balanced chance to win it. ... actually I'm sure I'll find things where I mind. But like, it is Adventure when you've got a fair shot at winning.

All the bad things that happen to bystanders in order to set that stuff up and give it stakes?
Not Adventure.
Just sad and sometimes scary.

And if it overlaps with real world stuff Read more... )

Then it goes from fun to Nope very quickly.

This is tricky.

There's probably things to do about it but right now I'm not thinking of the keywords.

Like there was a sheet going round tumblr where you could tick the Nope box on several common triggers, which is great, But I don't know of somewhere as would list suchlike for published adventures, such as the one I am reading.

... also I would read it anyway. Having listened to the audios I thought I knew what it would do, but I'm still tripping over Nope.

... lots of it is excellent Adventure though.

Shall ponder.

Torchwood Day One, the one sith the sex gas alien, remains as juvenile and creepy as I remember
but somehow Owen was worse and ruder than I remember
which is saying something.

Torchwood are a bit rubbish at their jobs
and once again cause the problem they then fix
like repeatedly.

Jack with the hand is also creeptastic.
Also Jack has a way of controlling conversations by making people uncomfortable, like 'You think knowing the answers would make you feel better?' instead of answering, and that is not his most charming feature.

... I actually like these characters and this show, though this is not obvious right now.

I'm also feeling at best flat and rather down, because I'm remembering the last and first times I watched these episodes, and I think both of those I was still in college. Been a while. And I was getting more done, so the comparisons are not encouraging.

*sigh*

Going to go read something new and feel less blah, methinks.
