story is hard to bring to life
Sep. 21st, 2020 03:01 pmToday I woke up having thought of a Big Character Moment for a story I am thinking on
and I sat down to write an outline sort of thing
and two sides of A4 later I ended up writing the Big Thing in the margin because it turned out to take a lot of context but not a lot of describing
and now I'm kind of frustrated.
like, the story would work like this, but why is it the moments that are so grand in our heads are just... Like That on the page.
ah well. 0th draft.
Also I have been making progress with parcelling out actual story to more than one character. Sure I think 'my' character is the coolest, but if they're the only one that Does Things then they might as well be the only one there. Boring.
So I am taking advantage of the options for making death temporary in the rpg world and having a nasty incident with a guillotine fade back in a couple of years later as her Students figure out how to fix things.
... or possibly not years, but, a large chunk of Doing Things later.
That way she doesnt just lecture people and tell them what to do. We see what they make of their Teacher's lessons when she isnt there.
Like, Richie Ryan kind of learned what Mac hadnt meant to teach, so that was unfortunate. A good Teacher who can impart the moral framework as well as the methods ends up with a whole lot more influence in the world. And you can only see that when they're not there.
But I dont want to leave Red dead so later she gets briught back and, like, critiques their work.
... if I ever write more of this down.
Still, ideas.
