rpg progress today:

character achieved level 20
after a fight which I had previously given up on and dropped the difficulty in the settings
only to discover we levelled up twice after winning
so the problem was probably being horribly under levelled
for a boss fight
we were specifically invited to.
(so I reloaded from an earlier save and just left the fight for later later.)

that said, the other problem is, at level 20
I have no idea what half my spells are, never use most of my abilities, and had to rearrange the tool bar to make some vague sort of sense.
I alternate between the spell that kind of force punches someone across the room
and chain lightning
or just summoning all the things if we get stuck.

pretty sure I should have started with a simpler build
pretty sure what I've been doing makes absolutely no sense
but *shrugs*

also most of my companions stay home like 90% of the time
and the oniy reason I'm levelling them up is that bit in Kingmaker
where you meet people out of order and have to make do.

Having brought Ember with me for nearly every fight I've been figuring out how young she is in elf terms and now it's like... Ember's age is the same as the time the Worldwound has been open, which is just about 110 years I think, but an elf starter adult is 110 plus some dice, so minimum 114, but that makes them equivalent to a human 16 year old. Ember is under 16 and the description keeps saying child and now it's creepy. I mean it was always creepy, that's kind of the point of these companions, here's an assortment of ways the worldwound screws people over, but, kind of wanting to send Ember home and maybe not bring her next playthrough.

... did I mention we are level 20? Plus the mythics?
... she still isn't equivalent to sixteen.
... that seems bad.

little late to think of that.

But Ember is Neutral Good and keeps saying correct and kind things, and they can work, so I keep bringing her.
Maybe next time I'll read a walkthrough to get maximum plot for minimum bringing.

The game isn't anywhere near as buggy as Kingmaker, or as buggy as I feared.
Nothing that didn't resolve by reloading or turning it off and on again.
I realise the optimum amount of turn it off and on again is zero, but, I was expecting borderline unplayable like their other game, and instead it do seem to play.
neat.

I need to stop playing for the day though.
I need to stop playing every day after a reasonable number of hours.
Not my strong point...
