where the colors are sexually dimorphic
lots of shiny shiny on the one side, lots of brown on the other.
You never get that with fantasy races.
Like you never get elves where all the women have brown skin and all the men have like shiny colors.
Just disrupt human ideas of race entirely. Defamiliarise and ask why it matters. Why not?
Pathfinder elves should be more colors anyway. The ones who live in caves go really dark skin, the ones who live in snow go super pale white, the ones who live in the sea go sort of blue ish, the ones who live in woods should be green and brown, or possibly orange like tigers. But no, lots of pink elves while at the same time saying they adapt to local conditions. There should be stone elves born in cities. Or kind of gold elves and you wonder what's up with them and you see grasslands in summer.
Another way of disrupting race as a category, just have it change when elves change ecosystem.
Probably just a way to get a bunch of shouting though.
