Dec. 8th, 2024 12:17 pmI am seeing a lot of Scrooge jokes this week and as someone who watches Muppet Christmas Carol every year I feel strongly about them.
The thing with the ghosts and the visits and all is: they are there to Save Scrooge. The first ghost tells him how rubbish the afterlife is if he doesn't change, and the others are there to change him, so he will not go to the bad place. Simples happy story.
Yes he ends up being nicer, doing charity, and paying his employees better, but that is of net benefit to Scrooge, because bad place.
You know what doesn't Save Scrooge?
Sending him to judgement straight away.
I think a lot of people missed the point of Christmas Carol.
