My plans for my Quest proceed apace.
... it might look like I've been going to Norwich and back like usual, but secretly the plans are very grand indeed.

Also, I have decided it's totally okay that mum invited herself along on the Quest.
... the bit of the Quest where we visited Grandpa and he was all stubborn about help was a bit helpful in deciding this.
Mum has decided that I invited her along to Stonehenge. So, okay, we're both going to Stonehenge. I can't remember deciding this, but since it's happening, that's cool too.

Tonight I have been attempting to plan going to King Arthur's Labyrinth.
I don't know why that of all the many places I looked up in the touristy things has grabbed my attention, but I like it.
Also I want to see mountains. Norfolk is sort of short on bits that go up and down. I hear they're impressive.

The trouble is in figuring what is where and how to get to it and what it means by 'easy' and 'close' whenever those words are deployed. Already there is difficulty choosing hotels because you have to read through the reviews to find out which ones are ratty or has bedbugs (ew). But when the hotel booking sites can't seem to figure out which what is where anyway, and google says one lot of hotels is quite near but the booking sites have ones that look quite far but say they're near, well, confusion.

Also, how do you choose between a 2 room B&B with a shower that may be unsuitable for claustrophobics, and a hotel that says on its front page "The hotel has secure storage for bicycles and guns"?

Plus they're all about saying they're good for Walkers and Bikers and People That Do Things. I have a vague intention to go on a storyteller trip that advertises on its website with mostly pictures of primary school children. I don't feel like their core market, is what I'm saying.

But there's cool sounding things like a steam railway and a Centre for Alternative Technology and the craft centre. Stuff to see.

Mountains sound cool. Cadair Idris has a story that anyone who spends the night up there comes down mad or a bard. Since I'm already mad this seems like a pretty good bet.

However since I get wore out going from college to the castle in Norwich I suspect walking up a mountain is Not My Sort Of Thing. And staying there would be a bit tricky without, say, a nice hotel. So I guess I'm not getting to be a bard that way then. ;-)

I keep on looking things up and then looking them up again when I can't spell them. I haven't the first clue how to pronounce most things. And signs and things have half in English and half in Welsh.
I end up feeling vaguely foolish even though I understand the English half.
There are really rather a lot of people in the world where I won't understand them without a TARDIS to translate for me. My known bit of world is really, really tiny. Stretching out to bits that also speak English shouldn't seem so daunting really.

I could look at all this, conclude my understanding is small, and stay home.

Or I could look at all this, know my understanding is small, and go on a Quest to stretch it out a bit. That sounds like more fun.

Think of it this way. You're really just going to another part of the same island.

Bards tell stories, yes? I think you've already got that one nailed, too.

I like your quest idea, and I'm really enjoying reading about the process.

This all sounds great.

However, you shouldn't hike up a mountain, even in very good weather, unless you are fit, have someone experienced with you and the proper equipment, especially proper boots. I would therefore recommend Snowdon, which has a mountain railway to the summit.

Secure storage for guns just means they cater to people coming for the shooting. If you go before August 12th (when the grouse shooting season starts) that won't be an issue. After that I think you might well feel uncomfortable in such a hotel.

And Snowdon has a cafe at the top, as well as being the highest mountain in Wales. I love Snowdon.
