Wesley's uniforms
Oct. 9th, 2010 07:59 pmOkay, I'm trying to watch TNG series two here, but I keep being distracted by the uniforms. And they do no one any favours. Polaski's variant works best, with the loose top over trousers it looks like clothes. Everyone else is just a walking demonstration of why skintight isn't the chosen look of most fashions. But Wesley Crusher has his very own problems. Grey is okay. I liked the three colored stripes he had in season one, it was like he hadn't chosen a color so he gets them all. Boring to get rid of that. But the bulk and texture on the shoulders helps, it being the most interesting fabric on the whole Enterprise. But the trousers just have problems. The little V shaped gap at the top of the back, the down arrow effect, it's... well, I don't see how it's helpful. But now I'm watching and the front of the trousers, center screen when he's standing at Picards desk, have this whole huge swoopy down arrow on them too. Everyone else has invisible black trouser area, Wes has like a flow chart diagram. That's just not right.
Also, I watched the one where he falls for an alien who turns out to be a shapeshifter, and the mismatch between how I watched the first time through and now is immense. I used to think he was dreamy. Now I'm all arrgh eeew too young nooooo. He's a kid. And not a very mature kid outside of his work. Older me is left distancing self from reactions of age appropriate me of that time.
Older me would also like to not notice anyone's trousers either. They're just not helpful or plot relevant.
OTOH Guinan rocks.
And so do her hats.
