Memory wipe NOT FUNNY
Oct. 20th, 2010 11:34 pmI wish tv would stop using memory wipe for teh lols. It is not funny. On Babylon 5 they replaced execution with the 'death of personality', total memory wipe. Taking away memories is killing someone by pieces. Creepy worse in some ways, it's trashing their free will, over riding their choices, by taking away the bits of them that did choose. It's not funny.
Also, I can understand the Torchwood charter stuff where Queen Victoria didn't think the little people could take the mental strain and decided to keep everything secret, and I can understand why writers want to keep returning things to status quo, but I cannot understand how they don't think these things interact very poorly indeed. I mean, if characters in stories do the cover up thing, it isn't for the writer reason of wanting to return to template. So what does that leave? Queen Victoria's ugly reason. Which diminishes everyone.
