Productive use of time
Mar. 19th, 2011 10:31 pmtoday I emailed the computer repair guy (no response expected until after the weekend... at least)
I did studying for Jane Eyre. It would currently be more useful to do more studying for Shakespeare cause I have to take the book back on Monday, but the Jane Eyre stuff is on the computer and I can highlighter it and get in arguments with the thing. Yay pdfs.
Then I started watching Doctor Who.
... I watched the bit with Amy and the Doctor and the TARDIS showing Amy all those photos of who else has been in the TARDIS and instead of just watching the next bit I slowed it right down and made a list. Except there's two ?? people cause I think they're from black and white I haven't seen. Then I started watching the next episode.
... then I stopped, realising it was going to continue to bug me until I worked out precisely what proportion of the Doctor's TV canon travelling companions had been women. Which of course is complicated by precisely what proportion of people on TV were in fact his travelling companions. The Brigadier obviously counts because of going to antimatter places that are not Cromer, and also Mawdryn, and also going to Gallifrey. Other people have all arguments all over Wiki and I haven't got an 'obviously' answer.
I concluded there was 1 robot dog, 11 men and 21 women. Unless there were 2 robots, 15 men and 25 women. Or more.
And then I made a pie chart.
It's more like 2/3 than 1/2 but it's not as obviously laughably under stated to have the Doctor say a bit over half.
But then I didn't calculate by multiplying how long each was around, which might tilt things again. Mostly women most of the time? Yes? No?
... I think I can leave that question for another day and go back to actually watching Rory and Amy and Doctor Who.
... this is my brain. Even when I'm trying to do essays. This is why I'm33 29 again and still in college. *sigh*
