River's speech with Rory was really pour her heart out stuff, and Rory could understand exactly how that would make her feel cause he knows Amy
... River knows Rory knows Amy.
So if we don't like the bits about "I live for the days" the Doctor is there and her whole life being about the Doctor, and really I don't because the way she's cool is she has her own life and just crosses paths with the Doctor, and the longer she's in prison the more messed up that aspect is too... that sentence got away from me... IF we don't like how messed up and dependent that scene makes her sound, is possible to read it as River playing Rory. Consider the effect on Rory and why River would want to do that. Spin new story.

... I spend waaaaay too much time fascinated by characters who are / could plausibly be just as good actors as the RL people playing them. Or better, with a few thousand years to practice.

I'm not sure about that - I think seeing the Doctor die shook River more than she wanted to admit. River doesn't always "live for the days", but she was pretty upset, and Rory was the only person she could talk to. Not just because he was there, more because she knew he'd understand.

Complex characters, gotta love 'em.

yes, between her most days being prison and her recent seeing him die upset, saying she lives for the days makes plenty sense.

Rory is also a very empathetic person, being as he chose a career in nursing. Come to think of it (re your previous DW post), if Amy hasn't told him she's pregnant, he probably suspects, being as he's had medical training.

There's also a certain degree of role reversal in the Rory/Amy dynamic - he's the stay-at-home type, she wants to have adventures. I bet he'd make a wonderful house-dad, given the chance.
