Why I should read my own journal more
Apr. 26th, 2011 05:31 amI just started re-reading the Kim Harrison written urban fantasy books, because I'd forgot if they were on the to-sell pile or the to-shelve pile. I just put the book down feeling sick because the central character - who I was hoping was a kick arse law enforcement witch like the cover said - has this partner who keeps assaulting her and she keeps making excuses and saying how its all her own fault. She provoked her, she shouldn't have resisted, all that crap. Classic domestic violence stuff. So I put the book down and searched for other people's opinions on these books... and discovered last time I was reading them I put the book down because they went to this creepy domestic violence stuff, plus the addiction thing gets worse, and apparently she dumps the boyfriend that just saved her and hooks up with the guy that just assaulted her in public, and... this would be why I couldn't remember them, I clearly scrubbed my brain since last time I read them.

From 2005. I should probably have sold them then. I'll put them in the to-sell box properly this time.

The one and only good point is the central character arrests, rather than executes, even when given the opportunity.
Fantasy books with rule of law in them, not so very common.
