beccaelizabeth: Blue Beetle, Ted Kord, cartoon style, bored, using one of those bats with the ball attached. (Bored)

So last night I went to bed and tried to sleep with 8 hours to go before I had to get up for college.
I was still awake for sure with four hours to go before I had to get up for college.
And then I got woke up an hour early by my lovely neighbours and their tendency to do things at the top of their voice while playing music and using power tools and running engines in the garage right under my bed.

I think I've had enough sleep to safely cross the roads on the way to college. It will be fun finding out.

But the hours attempting to get any sleep at all were very, very, very, very, very boring indeed.

... even if I did spend many of them trying to figure out what were the really important bits of the DCU to me so I could file the serial numbers off and keep them. I ended up thinking Beetle/Booster based around the time Booster had his arm torn off and his uniform trashed so Beetle built him power armour. It's a different relationship than usual. I mean, inventing your own super suit of armour is a different kind of hero than inventing improvements for someone else. So there they were, two guys wanting to save the world, one with a heart condition and one with limb loss. Booster wore the suit but got snarky and frustrated and yelled about Ted being Geppetto. Beetle had what he thought was a hopeless crush and mumbled something about Pygmalion instead. Also there was a whole thing about Beetle trying to be a superhero because of his teacher / lover who died and gave him the name to pass on, but not being able to do the same things because of his heart condition. Plus a thread about Beetle being older than Booster, and how it built up through joking to Ted yelling how it was only three years. He was only a postgrad student while Booster was an undergrad. It's not generational. Quit it with the old dude father type jokes! ... because, huge thinks it's hopeless crush, all awkward. And then they save the world together a lot. And then they get together. And then there is happily ever after.

Granted, quite a lot of that isn't technically in the DCU canon, but those are the bits I'd want to keep.

Also had ideas about the aesthetic. Because the skintights make sense on Nightwing, the very pretty, but would Ted Kord the usually quite plump really want to look the same? Plus, armour kind of helps. So how about a carapace sort of thing? With Beetle the first in chainmail or scales or something.

Beetles and tech are associated in a backwards sort of way. Ted builds bugs. Are there other animal archetypes that go techy?

... I could look up animal symbolism in the library today and it would totally be research for class as well.

Right then. Incentive. I shall get up and go to college, even if I am feeling sick as well as exhausted.

ETA: That cool stop motion bronze dude in the Harryhausen Argonauts thing is called
Talos
and that's also the name of an inventor. Will read more later but think that makes a good hero name. Big bronze suit.
