Wherein I have opinions about a Princess

Hot Daily http://www.journalfen.net/community/hot_daily/341952.html for Vintage Friday has Carrie Fisher in the Princess Leia dress with the metal belt. But it made me >:-( because it's not right. Where's her hands? Hands should have a gun! What's with the weird leg bit? That's not ready to kick anything, let alone Imperial arse! ... so I had a grumpy. The thing is, I have seen that pose soooooo many times, and I have seen it used for superheros, but only for women. All off balance, and hide the hands. And it should be so weird. It's like arranging missing body parts. But it's everywhere!

Lots of better pictures here, all fierce and determined.

And, okay, given how easy it is to find images of her in the slave bikini, including on my hard drive, I'm maybe complaining too much about a little thing. ... But I like the slave bit, she totally uses it to kill the bad guy and blow up his stuff, big win.

But clothes aren't the whole statement. Poses modify it muchly. Standing there with your hands on your head is weird prisoner surrender statement.

Are there guys who pose the same way? I can think of grabbing the back of their neck to show off their biceps, but that's a bit different.

ANYway, it's not Hot Daily, they do lots of interesting pictures, I just apparently had a grumpy this morning that earthed right here.

I swear I've seen a film use it where a princess does it to get a hairpin out of her hair to pick a lock, but I can't remember the film.

that would be cool, using expectations and then getting the pointy end out. Film is kind of different to still images though, it's not a single presentation of a still trapped moment, it keeps moving. Stills do different things.

I don't think you're complaining too much about a little thing. It's *one picture*, sure, but as you point out it's one of disturbingly many across fandoms and genres. One of the (many) great things about Leia is her kick-assitude -- and disempowering her is just, well, disempowering.
