Started researching rugby, on account of not remembering much more than the bits with the crunching.
Ended up discovering there are dwarf basketball teams.
Also that, however much I think I'm fine with disability and difference, I still crack up LOL at the idea of dwarf basketball.

... *facepalm*

I'm poking around for ideas to go with my not-stargate colony world. Because I'm very bored.
I wrote that one of the guys played rugby. So, okay, what does that do to his thinking? Team player, has ideas about how many go on a team, also that all have particular roles, and there's somewhere for everyone. I poked websites and found versions of rugby with tags instead of crunching. Apparently they encourage teams to be half and half men and women. This is not rugby like we did at school, or to be precise watched the guys do at school because girls were not allowed. Is a better version.
Website also said all body builds would find somewhere they could play. Was thinking, dwarf team member, perhaps challenging to find which position is appropriate.

I have previously had thoughts about superhero teams and the smooth integration of flying and non flying members, and how that maps to mixed ability teams on a more everyday scale. I'd like to do something like that, tell story where the team is very mixed.

Have also been having thoughts about how alien biotech works. They have bugs in their ears that do communication over distance, but not over continents. Walkie talkies, not satellite phones. Because I was looking out the car window at some guy with what turned out to be a bluetooth ear thingy and it just looked like he had a big bug eating his face. The bugs would be specially bred up, starting with bugs that just copy each others sounds, and ending up with bugs that copy what they hear over distances far greater than humans could conveniently shout. Magic bugs, basically. It is not original, but it's the start of some interesting visuals. Also, they would have a communications specialist, who would be the guy that collects the bugs at the end of the day and feeds them and makes sure they're not going to die any time soon or poop in anyone's ear. Because that would be inconvenient.

Biotech clothes could be spider silk. Cost of outfitting a TV series with spider silk is prohibitive, as is time it would take, since there's only one bit of it in the world and it took ages. But it is a very distinctive golden color, and that would be simples to match. So they have gold cloth armour. Probably also different cloths to be thermal undies or waterproofs or whatever, I don't know. Would spider silk be waterproof? But there's plenty of speculation about stronger than steel replacements for kevlar, so just saying it's armour is close enough. Chitin plate armour is also tempting, though I would be copying it from plenty other places. There's something about the big bug look. But snake scale leather would have some awesome too. Renewable vegan leather, just breed snakes that shed really thick skins. I don't know if they've got all the same plant cloths and animal wools and suchlike, or if they'd want to trade for new breeds. They'd be cheaper if they had cotton t-shirts, but they'd look weirder if they were all scales and silks. Depends what I want to do with them I guess. Also, they are all from many different places of their world, so their clothes could be as different among themselves as any continents on Earth. Fun.

The earth expedition would be requested to bring a lot of black. Because then they can at least probably match if they want to. Matching any other color requires all ordering the same thing together, but matching black you can probably do from your own wardrobe. Even with the problems of fading to different nearly blacks. So dressing them would be dead cheap, cause they'd be all charity shop and army surplus.

I realise I only have text to work with, but I'm designing the TV show for funs anyways.

I'm wondering if TV ever does the RPG thing and has people make up a character each. All the ones I know have writers make an episode each, and character continuity tends to suffer. You'd get distinctive voices the other way, but also have to have people have more contact. And you'd need a GM to rule it all.
... I'm trying to think up a lazy way to get my creations written without me. I know it doesn't work.

Early plots involve getting the team together and heading off to the new world and meeting the weird people with the bug in teh ear, then together discovering the lost city, and then... lots of things. er, that's like that plan that ends with PROFIT!!! I kind of need more stages. Okay, in the city they find somewhere that gets increasingly scary and difficult to get into, and the party is split between people who think 'maybe the makers wanted to scare us off; let's go somewhere else!' and 'the makers wanted to scare us off; the best stuff must be in here!' Cause I was reading a thing about nuclear waste and how to store it they'll need to communicate to future generations for longer than recorded history the idea that this stuff is scary and they should keep out. Writing KEEP OUT will very quickly be insufficient. So they were coming up with ideas to make the surroundings scary without the language. So, whatever the equivalent of the very long lived waste is in the lost city, it has KEEP OUT in nonverbal signage. Which gives fun opportunities to find what scares and doesn't scare the party. And then they can let the monsters out of the box. If the city was built to store the biotech equivalent of nuclear waste then you have an excuse for an actual dungeon full of monsters down there. Rock.
... a TV series based on a dungeon crawl would get tedious very, very quickly.
So, not mindless monsters then.
Talky beings that used to be human? Many possibilities there.

Need to decide what the stories are about. Like, Buffy made a lot of teenage problems into demons and staked them. Is it metaphorical like that in my lost city? But not for teenagers. For people that are very much hoping they're not middle aged yet. Somehow that doesn't sound so catchy already.

Was thinking what they'd name things. The naming of things is a Thing. Like, bloke we were reading about talking about discovering Africa, went around naming everything after himself. There's quite a lot of people in Africa already who had names for things already. So why not use those names? So, with new explorers from Earth, are they going there to discover what the locals name things? Simplest way to demonstrate the party they meet on the new world are from very mixed origins, all of them have their own different names for the lost city, no agreeing. So would the newbies pick one of them or make up their own?

I like the word deinos, from when we were studying Sophocles Antigone for Myth and Medievalism. That said it meant terrible and wonderful both at once. But if you name a place deinos then it's going to have dinosaurs in it. Everywhere's doing dinosaurs. There's not even a shortage of thinking dinosaurs. It's cause they're really cool. But do we need even more really cool dinosaurs? But if there's not going to be dinosaurs what will there be? Well, all kinds of everything, all the monsters you can think of. *ponders*

I try and think up plots and themes and stuff, I mostly think up pretty people dating in interesting combinations. But I wouldn't read story that was all about that. I want to read about teams working together to overcome all difficulties. Not just when they get home afterwards and shag. Even if I do consume really a lot of fanfic that concentrates on just that bit.

I'd like making teams on lower point cost characters. Like, if you start off with Hero, or even Superhero, with the epic skills and the being the best in the world, it says something about the best humans can be, but it also says that best is Not You. I want to make a team of people who are clearly not the best in the world, not epic standout Hero double doctorate geniuses or special ops dudes. They're just regular people, some with a degree and a special interest, some just looking for a job. And then the story you say is, the best humans can be is what you get when you add this all together. Any of us can contribute to this best. We are highly social, we can make teams, and they are stronger than their parts.

It's just if I'm doing that I also have to find enemies and problems that won't completely flatten any individual part. Without breaking a sweat. Which is tricky.

I'm kind of saying I liked the Scoobies better when they were still in high school. But I'm not saying it because they were teenagers then. Just they were people who found themselves in huge epic events, not huge epic people. I liked it better when spellcasting involved calling all friends over the internet than when it meant going glowy haired. But there's something about power and responsibility, and noticing when you have power, and never being too small to be able to mess up real huge, that you can tell once Willow gets all powerful.

The Doctor has kind of done the same thing by persistent not getting dead. Maybe. I don't know, he was a bit epic from way back. But, mad man with a box, improvising his way out of situations, that's him. Only, also, do it long enough, and he's the guy who can say 'look me up' and win.

*thinks and pokes idea*

I also keep going back to the comedy idea that they announce their discoveries to the world via organising a SF con. It's perfectly logical, from a certain angle. And then, of course, they discover the stone circle actually needs to recharge after a certain number of uses, and they have a whole SF convention of people, and no way of sending them home. Because stranding a lost family or a lost military ship is relatively tidy and convenient. But a lost con? Imagine the civilisation they'd develop.

... *blinks* ...

... possibilities...
