Rec me something?
Jun. 9th, 2012 11:41 pmI'm really, really, really bored.
Also, AO3 isn't telling me things. Searches are getting 500s and 502s. Is sad.
I need new stuff to do. Things to watch, things to read. Fanfic that's awesome and I maybe haven't read before.
... places to read fanfic that are neither Ao3 or recs lists that lead primarily to geocities and other 404s.
So what's good with you? What are you watching, what is making you squee, what fic rocks your world?
(Unless it involves incest or noncon. That I will not be interested in.)
I think next week or the week after I'm going to buy a ton of DVD sets and spend the summer watching them.
I may end up buying Stargate Atlantis even though I gave up on that. I keep reading the fanfic, the canon can't be that bad, right?
Also I want Star Trek Enterprise on proper discs. I haven't actually read any fic for that. I just spend ridiculous time on my happy if I were on the Enterprise Mary Sue epics of insomniac doom. I somehow don't think other people's fic will feed the same need there.
I don't know what else I'll want to get.
Fringe? I watched one season of that and vaguely intended to get the next but I don't think it spent five minutes in my head since I put the DVDs away.
(Some shows move in to my head long term. Poltergeist the Legacy - or at least specific characters - is still hanging out there. Anyone know if season 2+ is on DVD anywhere?)
(Ditto Sentinel seasons.)
I could rewatch Battlestar Galactica and remind me why I stopped buying it. I think it got really depressing. Possibly I'll be less depressed this time and think it's cool?
Supernatural... always boils down to, how much do I care about pretty angsty boys vs dead women? And that answer hit my tolerance for dead women a really long time ago.
If there are cool and awesome women, I could put up with a lot, but I only ever hear about more pretty angsty boys.
I'm kind of done with them.
I don't know. Torchwood turned into not-Torchwood and some shows got cancelled and while there is always Doctor Who it seems there should be times there is more than only Doctor Who.
Booooooooooooooored.
Where are all the awesome women?
There are reasons I keep on watching Doctor Who, and very high on the list is that it is never short of awesome women.
If I venture out of the F&SF side, are there more awesome women? Am I just stuck looking in a less awesome genre? I haven't got that impression, but then I haven't watched much of anything without an SF&F element since... ever.
I don't know.
I'm going to rewatch the 11th Doctor this week.
After that... something.
(Kind of like my plan for college: diss on 11, then... at some point form a plan.)

Date: 2012-06-09 11:37 pm (UTC)Also Castle; the titular character (played by Nathan Fillion) is surrounded by strong women, including his mother and daughter. Again, it takes time to get into; his mother starts out more of an eccentric side character, but she gets to grow (as does his daughter, of course). That one's a police procedural with bickering/romance, not F&SF. Come to think of it, I should really rewatch the series, now that we finally got another set of DVDs after Aged Mum appropriated ours.

Date: 2012-06-13 10:13 am (UTC)I started watching Castle but then remembered why I don't watch all them murder shows. There's more murder on TV than in life and it's not a fun TV world to live in.

Date: 2012-06-10 02:15 am (UTC)The second lead is also bisexual, and it's pretty obvious that the lead used to sleep with her old roommate from Juvie, who wants her back. I'm not sure I'd exactly say the lead is awesome but I sure wouldn't want to get in her way.

But that does sound interesting.
