I phoned yesterday for an appointment and today got my hair done again.
I had thought I could grow it out and do something different with it, but the longer it got the more I remembered why I'd buzzed most of it off in the first place. Huge wide hair that doesn't stay where it's put, and long tangly bits at the back. He took three inches off the ends today, a length determined by trying to get a comb through it and cutting it off where that stopped being possible. Dratted stuff.
So now I'm back to a 3 cut up to the temples and the top layer down to my shoulders, all goth black.

I look like me in the mirror again.

Also, I was thinking I don't have much silver in my hair, I look in the mirror and think yeah, still kind of the same, doing fine... I look in the pile of what got shaved off today and I'm all arrrrrrgh, how shiny? Very shiny! *sigh*
I'm still mostly fine with it, I just have to update my self image a bit to include the things that don't show from the front :eyeroll:

I also got some good studying time in. Finished highlighting the one about the construction of ancient Rome in the Pompeii episode, how that interacts with the website and docudramas and the thing where they'd borrowed Rome sets. That was interesting. Except the basic message of every cultural studies or apparently history essay ever seems to be that there's no such thing as truth, there's just stories everyone tells each other, and no two people understand those the same anyway. And, well, yes, but then what?

Then I started reading what is supposed to be an analysis of costume design in 70s Doctor Who. So far it is a few pages explaining why Costume Design Is Very Important and complaining how Nobody Notices (Except The Writer). If they'd framed the same information as a history of the industry context of costume design I'd be happily fascinated, but I have to keep stopping to make snarky comments in the margins, because hello, I sought out and printed and am reading this article on purpose, I know costume design is important, can we get on with it? But no, it has to keep establishing why their fandom is bestest.

... a lot of academic papers seem to start the same way. I can see why you need to show you've done the reading and know where your bit goes in context of everyone else's and why it's worth reading, but there's ways and ways to phrase that. Your bit doesn't have to be uniquely bestest to be worth it.

I'm sure it'll say something interesting about costumes eventually. So far all it has said is costumes are interesting. I'd love to agree with it, if it would only show not tell...

I had kind of planned to get the bus in and go to college, but I forgot how busy loud noisy PEOPLE difficult the hairdresser can be, so even though I was in quite a good mood I need to come and recharge. Also there were lots of chemicals happening to lots of people and I has coughing now. Not much, but it's annoying. Hopefully it will wear off, not on.

Now I'm home in the warm with plenty of things to read.
:-)
