Doctor Who Christmas

beccaelizabethI watched Doctor Who :-D
and I only had to stop to cough a couple of times, so I am clearly getting better :-)
now everything is happy and shiny and feels like christmas lights :-D
It had a lot of comedy and a lot of scary... though come to think most of the scary was pretty funny. Bitey snowflakes are awesome, but also LOL. As is REG. Sort of in general. ANYway, lots of funny and lots of funny-scary, and then that one actually bad part when she fell. That was :-(
But since everyone knows who the new companion is then we're right there with the Doctor thinking she's got to live. So it's weird. like, if they're three separate people that happen to have the same name and look the same, then it's three separate sads when they die, but instead it's like sad is on hold.
Kind of like with Rory.
... is maybe odd approach to death that Moffat has.
The story forgot the memory worm after it bit the dude. So presumably it slithered off and people will keep forgetting they saw it. It's like slithery retcon.
... in the Victorian era. A bit before Torchwood.

Retcon is creepy so memory worm is creepy, and WTF Doctor just using the retcon? Doctor was being very not Doctor in the middle there. Grumpy man making racist rude at Strax. Well, speciesist. Being rude about potato head when he's not actually being attacking things is just random rude. Doctor should know better.
This Doctor is older by centuries than the one that started travelling with Amy.
All tired out.
That bit about learning the universe doesn't care though... I was like, hi Doctor, having a 13 year old year?
Because yes, we know that.
And no, xmas ending or not, the universe does not make bargains.
It's just sometimes it's still interesting anyway.
I did like watching the Doctor fall in companion-love with Clara. It's lovely because we're loving the same things and he's noticing them and waking up again. And then he's like, okay, this is happening, here have a key, *hearts in eyes*.
I didn't so much like the kissing. Kissing should involve more permission and less pouncing. Just in general.
But I like Clara figuring out the umbrella. And following him when he says not to. He says the rule is don't wander off, but the important rule is when to keep up.
I thought the TARDIS looked snowy cold. I'm not sold on the new look yet. Very shiny and lots of moving parts, that could be nice, but it seemed to suit his sulk too well.
Probably she'll look more like home later.
And white and grey worked perfectly well for long and long.
I liked the opening titles. There was a face in them. that's Proper.
The TARDIS up the long stairs that are taller on the outside is excellent. TARDIS in the stars on a cloud. Lovely lovely.
I like 'it's smaller on the outside' too. New! Just as true!
And it's a different perspective, like prioritising the inside over the rest of the world.
I love Vastra and Jenny and Strax, and that Strax had been dead but got better because that turned out to be Clue only Clara didn't actually stay better, and the three of them are just excellent. I'd want them to get their own show but that would mean wishing makeup on nice people, all day, every day. That's a lot of work. A lot. But it would be awesome. Victorian adventures! Married ladies! ... I kind of like the introductions and the objecting to suggestions of improriety because Married and also I liked how there was screaming and not dealing with it. Because they're being silly and unhelpful. So Vastra and Jenny just get on with things.

The snowmen story was wrapped up neat and tidy in one Special.
Clara is a much more interesting story that we now know there's hints of and clues for and a big puzzle to put together.
