am watching the rest of season 1 of Grimm.
as I had already noted, it gets really boring when you can figure out all the things just by figuring out someone's gender.

tree goes:

Is character female? Y = victim or villain.
Is character confident? Y = villain.

no, seriously, it is thus far infallible.

there's also category love interests, inhabited by Juliette, who exists to have whatever random skill they need this week that isn't covered by ... actually I can't remember her name, the apothecary lady who Monroe likes. She reads stuff out of books, or Monroe does. Nick can't read his own books, apparently that would be boring but exposition about made up shit in foreign languages is just fine if someone else does it.

So. Very. Bored.

It's also being kind of spectacularly fail in that I think the entire season is a Bechdel fail. Sometimes it gets as far as two women talking to each other. I think that's happened twice? If you count the time one was trying to kill the other. The other time was a mother telling her daughter how to get pretty for a man. It involved leeches and she wanted to get the guy so she could kill him but otherwise kind of boring conversation.

sometimes I wonder what world writers live in. I mean, the world I live in is at least 50% women, more in some occupational specialities and interest groups. TV world is somehow at least 2/3 male no matter what. It's freaky.

sometimes I don't know why I bother complaining. I could just ignore it. it's only, like, pervasive and distorting all the drama. that's totally ignorable. I can just watch... shows that don't do that? like... Well I keep trying to watch Charmed because theoretically it's about women but mostly it seems to be about their boyfriends and getting married and stuff so I get bored. Once Upon a Time has been cool. I could rewatch Buffy.

I will never be tempted to rewatch Grimm. Total waste of a DVD.

(hugs) I dropped Grimm, too.

I'm also dropping Beauty and the Beast. I really liked it at first because it was half the beast part and half two young, confident women detectives solving murders. Then, it devolved into the same problems I had with Twilight.

I'm really psyched about Agents of SHIELD though. Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) kicks so much ass in the trailer and is apparently a legend within SHIELD, plus Skye and Simmons. I also really like Maurissa Tancharoen who appears to have a lot of power behind the scenes and is really fun. It didn't dawn on me until I saw her Twitter description that she's Asian.
