bad movies
May. 22nd, 2013 09:32 pmstarted watching 'Invasion', the one that doesn't bother mentioning bodysnatchers in the title. it was so obviously awful I actually managed to skip chunks until it was being too creepy upsetting (violence to children, by the protagonists) and delete it without wasting those hours.
also some message about having to retune my recorder box got recorded where the subtitles should be, so, you know, not helpful.
Watched 'Daybreakers'. Very stylish. So stylish I didn't notice it was awful until I'd watched most of it.
really, there could have been a plot and characters and dialogue in there.
at one point it was like the script went 'screw it, lets just kill people messily' and that was the whole rest of the movie.
also it seemed to be going with a rich exploit/eat the poor thing for a while, with a side order of violence corrupts and making the military creepy, but then it turned into a lot of bad non-science and making a cure infectious and any kind of metaphor broke down and got drowned and blown up and spurted red all over the place.
There was the usual gender imbalance and dead black guy problems, but the whole movie fell apart so bad I basically don't care about individual badness ingredients.
But, like I said, very stylish. Visuals with a whole unified theme and color palette and some nasty yet appropriate architecture and a lot of worldbuilding going on. Interesting vampire makeup. Kind of a pity it didn't ... work.

Date: 2013-05-23 08:11 am (UTC)Vampires as ethnic minorities doesn't even make sense, the key to vampires is they look just like us but aren't. Well, I guess there's a lot of fuss about 'new' Europeans as ethnic minorities or old nazi stuff about Jews, there's a lot of ethnic mess to dig up with like us but secretly a monster. It'd be nice if it just died out by now though.
Which shows do you reckon went with the ethnic minority metaphor?
