Random Arrow thought

Having finished season 1 of Arrow and not much liking what happened to, oh, one or two characters, I of course am turning over plot bunnies and deciding what to keep and what to change. Because fandom is where we can save them, even if it involves filing the serial numbers off sometimes.
So one of the first changes is, swap Laurel's dad for Laurel's mom. Alex Kingston as the seen everything cop? Yes, please.
And it plays completely differently to have protective mom with Opinions on who her daughter dates than it does to have another dad doing that.
Today though I'm thinking, do I want to keep Tommy/Laurel? I mean, that's mainly to set up the love triangle and I kind of hated that.
But Tommy/Dinah?
Colin Donnell and Alex Kingston. I could see that working.
Plus instead of some contrived thing where a girl has to choose between two billionaire playboys who love her while the guys sulk at each other and both try and give the girl to each other, instead there's a conflict of loyalties where Tommy loves a cop and a vigilante, loves the cop chasing the vigilante specifically, and has to find some way to resolve that. I mean, leaving the girl because you don't want to tell her her ex is in love with her, blah. Leaving the woman because you don't want to tell her your best friend is a murderer? Teensy bit more charge there.
I'd also restore Laurel wanting to grow up to be as awesome as her mom. I want there to be two generations of kick arse women. Possibly in fishnets even.
... I miss costumes. Street clothes narrow the possibilities down so much. Superhero costumes, like sports team stuff, draws on a lot of symbolism that regular street clothes don't use. It's such a rich vein. And that Huntress stripperwear looked good, albeit problematically. There has to be a balance that can be struck where they look awesome and iconic.
I don't know though, Tommy/Laurel was occasionally sweet, she should have sweet boyfriend who tries to do nice things for her and supports her even when it gets dangerous.
... or possibly sweet girlfriend? There's other interesting characters if girlfriend...
I also don't know who'd want to read it all jumbles like this. I'd just kind of like to watch it.
