Have watched until the end of the first season on BBC3. ... recorder box missed an episode, but by the time I was sure of that I was wanting to see what happened next more than what I'd missed.

It's weird, I feel like I care a lot about each and all of the characters, but not at all about the big plot. Like, I'd like to know if their lives work out happy, because there seems to be a lot of complication between here and there, but I don't much care about their big mystery. However that works out, whatever the motives or whatever they were trying to achieve, I will shrug, and wonder how everyone's love lives turn out.

... I feel like I've been sucked into watching something with a shiny science fiction wrapper but ended up only caring about the mundane stuff.

Is a good trick.

Is the trick that is missing from certain other regular watching of late. Like, on Agents of SHIELD, I continue to wait to care about almost all of the characters. Something is missing, something this show has stacks of.

Actress totally rocks. Not only can tell characters apart but can tell when one of the characters is impersonating another of the characters. How does she do that? Is magics. ... or body language and skill and that clever actor stuff.

I like how the whole season is made of consequences. It made missing an episode really awkward but it means once they set up the basic characters then the rest rolls. Is very good trick, don't need to push it with new outside events hardly at all.

I'm feeling oddly disinclined to rewatch episodes though. I mean, usually if I like a story I like rewatching it, but to rewatch I'd either like to spend time with characters again or want to be looking for clues. Their world has no comfortable, it's one of the ones you watch glad your life works better, and the kind of clues they're dropping I no need to look for, nor am interested in. I just want to know how things work out. Next is interesting, but rewatching the already does not appeal. Odd.

I did dislike one element though: treating mental illness with a good being killed. Again. Again again again. Does TV know about any other options? If they need a killer they reach for mental illness, and then they wrap it up by killing her. They have Sarah hesitate a few times to show she's the nice one, but the consequences are always bad and it ends with murder anyway. I find this a really big lie. It depicts a moral universe where they're punished for attempting to be good and rewarded for being evil. Problem.

On the other hand I like how Alison has managed to fuck up her life. I mean, only from a writing point of view, because it all made perfect sense and you can both see it coming and see why she can't see it. But still, she's managed to screw herself over really really badly.

... what happens next for her has next to no good outcomes, really...

what else I like... I like that the arsehole from the first episode ends up trying to get help. the possibility of better is always a good thing. also it seems reasonable that finding out your girlfriend faked her own death to get away from you could work as a wake up.

esp helpful when Alison's rejection of the intervention, deciding the pills and drinking were not in fact a problem it was all the world outside that was a problem, is tangled up with how screwed her life ends up.

I'm totally least interested in tiny miracle child. I mean, I'd probably be more interested if she wasn't special at all. Not least because I can willingly suspend disbelief on the whole clones have identical fingerprints issue but have to point out that there are plenty of existing children of clones because twins are clones and every time they ignore that on TV just makes it harder to play along. I'll buy that there's human cloning in this story, okay, just the hints that they're transgenic are the bit that makes them different, not the simple fact of being twins. But hey, whatever, sci fi!

So, you know, loops back to 'interesting characters, not interested in the sci fi aspects'. Again.

so. would watch more, probably won't rewatch, continue to not think about it between episodes. *shrugs*
