Doctor Who: Flatline
Oct. 18th, 2014 09:09 pmI liked it. I still don't like him - randomly insulting people isn't right - but since he spent most of his time stuck in the box then that works out. And I did like all the silly business with the shrinking TARDIS. Also I liked when he had to make like Thing to get the TARDIS off the tracks.
Makes all out TARDIS money boxes and so forth much more interesting, which is as it should be.
Clara was smart and fast and an excellent Doctor. Also a very fluent liar. Which is Plot and she will probably get karma for imminently, so that's interesting.
What I don't get and can't see where they're going with it is saying she's not good, by implication the Doctor's not good, goodness has nothing to do with it. They go around saving lives and helping people, what part of that is not good? That they're not nice about it? But that didn't even apply. I don't see what wasn't good here, so he's just randomly being a jerk.
And we still have no idea what's up with Missy, and I'm bored of it.
The bad things were proper scary though. He called them Boneless at the end? That's boring and doesn't suit. The thing is though I'm a bit annoyed about the bit where they became 3D, because they only did it because they'd been set up as impossible to defeat in 2D. I mean, if they had stayed in the walls taking people in, the Doctor would have lost. So their powerset changed in the middle of the episode just so they became defeatable. That's boring. Granted the only way either form was defeated was a literal handwave from the Doctor, but they were scarier in the walls.
I did like the roadrunner solution of draw a door but I don't see why within the logic they couldn't have made it 3D. I mean you can't make 3D into 2D, arbitrarily deciding that 2D into 3D is only possible if something has been 3D first... explains why they were wearing people, actually, but still, seemed daft.
But the proper sort of daft where a scary monster brings its own solution. So it was still fun.
So I liked this week's plot, have lesser but ongoing problems with the characters, on balance am glad I watched which is ahead of everything except last week. I hope it hurries up and gets the Doctor back to being someone you want to spend time with though.
