Indexing, by Seanan McGuire

beccaelizabethI just finished Indexing, and now my face is like :-D
That was fun.
It's especially fun because it's an urban fantasy involving a whole lot of new takes on fairy tales, and knowing how the story usually goes only puts you in the same boat as the characters, that is, somewhere between confused and apprehensive, before it all seriously kicks off. The twists, they are many. It's like playing.
Also, as you can tell from the cover, apples are a feature.
Which makes it fun that today was apple thing day, and the cleaner stuff makes the house smell apples.
Also that I tend to dye my hair goth black. Though with the amount of shiny showing now I'm letting that grow out, I don't think I'm in any danger of looking like the protagonist.
There are, as usual for Seanan, plural women, all distinctive, and all interesting to get to know. Whichever sort of action you're looking for, brains or magic or violence, it will provide. And the ending is excellent.
Hence the face like :-D
The story is pretty complete in itself, but I think there's going to be a season 2 eventually. So that'll be even better.
... I want to say more about the book but it would mostly be the equivalent of bouncing up and down and making *eeee* noises.
