Bath, and places to live therein
Jul. 22nd, 2005 05:29 amI've been using web resources to try and find Giles a house again. Found some amusing things.
There is a bit of Bath called 'Odd Down'
the road leading there from Bath Spa station is Wellsway
which is amusing because I want to put Andrew (Wells) in Bath annoying Giles
http://maps.google.co.uk/
is fun
Mind you, I lack the connecting of maps to reality, and have no idea if 'in' is the right word or how to get there from anywhere.
*pokes at the directions thingy*
If I've got the railway place right - and I can't find it just by typing railway, so I've chosen a restaurant next to the railway line symbols instead - then it says '7 mins', which seems like 'in' to me.
There's an Odin's Road in the middle of Odd Down.
Also Oolite road, which is just a silly word.
There are a couple of oak places too.
Oak Avenue is out nearer Odd Down or Southdown
Oak Street is right next the railway line
actually, when I zoom in enough, it is right across the railway line, with Wood Street going off along the railway. Oak Street sort of points at Wells Road, but doesn't quite meet it.
I decided Giles was an Oak sort of person, and then I found a couple of sources that reckoned Giles lived at an Oak address in Sunnydale. So that is why I am looking for Oaks. I'm going to put him in a made up place though, because it isn't quite fair to put made up people in real houses.
Still, now I want to poke around looking for houses for sale, to see which are the nice streets he could live in.
Also, I need photos.
Or possibly to go visit places. But I haven't been in to Norwich (not counting college or friend house or train station on way somewhere else) since the first lesson of the school year that just finished. I've only been into the town outside my front door about a dozen times. Travel is not my strong suit.
University and college type places in Bath
Lots of other nifty lists on other levels. Like finding local churches.
Propertyfinder has zoomy maps with colored houses for stick pins.
From there I find that Bath also has a Lorne road.
This gets funnier.
The properties there for sale are garages.
This I cannot make funny.
There is a Daniel Street. Like Oz. But I do not think he will live in it.
Three properties today in Odd Down. Two for £350,000. One advertised as adjacent to the park n ride, the other as adjacent to the South Western City boundary. So, is on the edge of Bath. The other £161,950 - 3 bed House, semi detached, let to students until June 2005.
interesting.
Now I've got sidetracked poking around rental properties.
I just find this fun even when I have absolutely no interest in buying/renting/moving out of my chair.
I mean even tacky places look kind of cool with a decent sale photo. And Royal Crescent looks very cool indeed. £1,400 per month for a 2 bed Flat there. The only more expensive rental on their list for the area is a 5 bed house.
1 bedroom flats to buy in BA1 seem to start at £112,500
£115,000 for a 2 bed Flat in BA2
much the same then
(house prices make my head hurt. I have to pretend they are play money.)
The one in Park Street for £120,000 is adequately pretty
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION This cosy top floor flat should be put straight to the top of your viewings list. Accommodation comprises of kitchen, sitting room, double bedroom and bathroom. Offered with no onward chain, blink and you'll miss it.

Or, you know, crazy. Whatever.
oooh, Norfolk Crescent, prettier

hmmm, further poking around suggests the really pretty picture is actually the view... and also I suspect it might be one of the ones in the roof. Call me suspicious.
This one looks even more like the place in my head.
£145,000 - 1 bed top floor flat
Room Dimensions
Entrance Hall
Master Bedroom 13'3 x 10'6

Kitchen 9'2 x 6'2
I think top floor flat means in the roof.
is much prettier than the others in that price range, has to be something wrong with it.
It is kind of interesting that if you look for houses that are not flats you get an entirely different looking city.
Actually, some of these flats are looking familiar. Um, yes, I have looked for Giles' house before. I'm easily amused.
I'm just going to post this pointless epic and... well, if I'm realistic, look at houses for another hour or so. But in theory go and find something more productive to do.
