I'm really bad at quitting watching things.
I watched 2-08 on 4oD yesterday, and it was not boring, but it was still annoying.
It's bothering me how little they do with Trip. Ward has an epic backstory and family and plots, and Ward is the bad guy. Same with the actual nazi. They get characterization. Trip gets shot.
I've read spoilers, but this is damn lazy storytelling.
Especially since the hunt through the archives for SSR related files should have been an opportunity to hear about Trip being a legacy and how awesome his ancestor was. But no. He was just off getting shot.
Hunter stayed home to get all the story. And the story that should have been about how Bobbi Morse is all kinds of kick arse awesome turned into emotional beats about how her ex is still her favourite and she's his. Like stealing the file to give it to her, because he wants her to be awesome more than he wants SHIELD to be informed? That's not actually of the good. And all her interactions were with men where they could have been with women.
Simmons and May talking about Director Peggy Carter was my favourite moment of the episode, because Bechdel passes should happen more often, and also because they're actually having feelings and expertise and learning stuff and telling us things.
Morse and May could also be of awesome. Can you imagine that sparring sequence? They'd move so awesome.
But no, we get her getting back with her misogynistic insecure accusatory arsehole of an ex husband, the one who calls her a she devil. That's the guy she values? That's... I haven't read the comics and how Hawkeye and Mockingbird get along, much, but I can't imagine him being like that. Is he at all? Or did they swap out a good guy for the opportunity to call a strong women bad names for being really good at her job?

I hate how they're prioritizing. They're being more misogynistic and racist than the comics, and that's vastly depressing.

The whole thing with Skye's mum is classic fridging, but to motivate the bad guy. Which makes it even worse and more annoying. And she doesn't even get to make words. I thought with that actress then maybe, but no, she's just... they mess her up every way they can. And sure it's a bad guy doing it, but the camera gets all the details.

When medical torture happens to Coulson he gets to make words about it and have reactions and be angsty about it later. When it happens to a random unnamed woman? She's meat.

Coulson trying to be more like Fury is an interesting thread. He's kind of ignoring the thing where Fury quit, pulled down his own organization for being screwed up, and gave Coulson the job. Presumably Fury wants Coulson to do things differently. So Coulson should be figuring out what his own strengths are, and playing to them, not trying to be the old regime.
It was an interesting line though, because he doesn't just say Fury can think like the enemy, he say something like for good or ill. Like that's Fury's bad as well as good. I can't rewatch because episode gone again, but that was the one line I'd like to be sure of, that was interesting.

Mostly it is not interesting, and it is prioritizing the stories of white guys, even clearly and completely evil white guys, rather than spending time on any of the more awesome cast.

I just feel sad they've chosen to use their hour a week on this. This isn't what I wanted and is frequently what I actively do not want.
