Ugh, no. I'd completely forgot they flat out said that, my reading of the earlier story was it didn't support that, because, and this is pretty huge and hasn't been mentioned since, it was curable and they cured the other case. How can the murder of an ill person be the right thing when they could have cured her instead?
Charley says C'rizz is "a good friend who tried to throttle me. that's the second time in as many weeks."
... the writers didn't consider this a rather large problem? I mean, it's always outside manipulation, but then it's violence against women that she's just supposed to shrug off because lalala he didn't mean it.
The woman in authority in this one gets killed off and then replaced, but it's with another woman so that's almost an improvement? But the Doctor has to tell her to do the job? It's not like he has any authority there.
At least this time it's mostly C'rizz who is out of character. only mostly, the whole place manipulates them into not believing in themselves and seeing what they fear, but he's worst off.
I quite like the idea of the faith hypermarket where swings in converts are collected daily like a stock market. And the church of Whoops is fun. And stealing people's minds through their 'faith' emptying them out is pretty good. So I basically liked the plot.
I just hear some recurring problems in the themes. Everyone's not themselves and they get mind controlled again, and nobody has a real baseline established because it has happened so often. So then we're listening to deliberately out of character people who, on the whole, have no in character version to compare against. Except the Doctor. I guess they reckon, given their audience, presence of the Doctor is sufficient.
If I ignore all the things from previous stories that have been winding me up consistently and still weren't helpful here, I quite liked this one. That's a really qualified if though.
