Whilst researching for my dragons I have discovered there are plenty of people willing to sell you monoatomic gold to increase your psi abilities.
:eyeroll:
You can also get 'edible gold' in both flake and dust form. It costs about £60 per g. If dragons needed it in that form, they've got a very expensive habit. On the gold bullion site it says it costs around £25 per g, though that's a wiggly graph that has been higher.
... edible gold happens in tiny gold stars too. I do realise that eating tiny gold stars would not result in keeping the gold very long, but, shiny!
There's also Goldschlager, which is 40% alcohol and has sparkly actual gold bits in it. So if you're trying to get a dragon really drunk...
Apparently an average man's wedding ring weighs 3g, though trying to find out how much rings weigh comes up mostly those we'll buy anything sites that are kind of depressing. It's a good excuse for an inconsistently appearing wedding ring though, portable snack. Leads me to wonder how pure dragons need their gold. Er, I know I'm making it up, I mean, do I want to say they need 24ct gold or is a cheapish 9ct ring going to be snacky goodness? How expensive do I want his habit to be?
I think the GURPS settings I picked imply he needs to spend twice as much on food as regular people. So like if his food bill was £60 a week he'd add £60 of edible gold on top and call it done. Then a 3g ring would be more than one week of food? But less pure, so maybe only a week.
... there's a lot of made up numbers in there. I guess I want to figure out how long I want to leave them in a locked room together, and then say oh wow, he's running out of gold, he'll have to eat just the amount they happen to have on them. There's not much point actually figuring it out.
Probably dragons get bored of their foods just like anyone, and like a bit of variety. Gold dust on their curry today, a wedding ring on the go on missions tomorrow, and next week maybe try it with tasty herbs.
Preparations that promise to make you immortal often have the word 'gold' in them. Unfortunately they also usually have the metals lead and mercury in them. I don't know, alchemists, not a great success story.
I found a place called Body Candy body jewellery that sells gold piercings in 14 kt, which other sites agree is best for body jewellery. Okay then, guess what'll be featuring in that section of the story...
bored bored bored, this isn't giving me story ideas, I'll go find something else to do.
