Doctor Who
Oct. 3rd, 2015 09:10 pmI quite liked that. There was quite a lot to like in that. Diversity, several women, a deaf character communicating by sign, all good. Plus a proper spooky October story.
If they could just change one tiny thing I would be about a thousand percent happier though. If they could just make one little change I wouldn't spend the whole episode trying not to grind my teeth. So, dear Doctor Who production team: could you please, please, stop killing a black man before the opening credits.
How do they even... they can't have sat down and decided to do this, right? This was not a conscious decision, right? And yet, two two parter stories so far this season, and twice it has happened. Added to the number of dead black men there were last season and... any other show at all and I would not be watching any more. Added to the whole 'that's racist' running joke at Christmas and how we can tell the production team takes our complaints so very seriously... fuming mad.
And yes, there were people of colour who did not get dead. But since the trope is specifically African/Black men getting dead, well, not as helpful as it could be.
If they could just fix this then I could get back to enjoying my favourite show.
As it is my favourite show thinks I'm going to enjoy watching black men die, and it makes me feel really ... ugh *shudders*.
