Parting Gifts and Somnambulist
Renner is so not himself yet. I mean obviously he's himself at that age, but it feels more like watching old stuff that they're sketches or outlines and haven't filled themselves in yet. It's weird.
200 years doing the exact same thing is sad though. Do you reckon most vampires are like that? People change / not us?
Parting Gifts had the empath demon refer to Cordelia as a twenty-something. And she didn't correct him. Which is interesting. Like, she's straight out of high school, she hasn't been trying and failing for more than a few months, she's all new and shiny and could really do with actually studying her chosen profession but instead gets these visions that are like having seizures in the middle of auditions and her whole life is now rearranged around her new disability. Great present, A+. But also, why refer to her as twenty-something, from a script point of view? Like, did they decide she didn't look like a teenager any more and just kind of retcon her? That doesn't fit anything else though because her high school friends are still visiting and they're all college freshmen. So probably it's not meant to be a thing, just him getting stuff wrong.
But it seems like it fits with how Cordelia's age is treated in this series, like she never gets mentioned to be a teenager, and she's going to bars with Doyle, when by the BtVS timeline she's still US underage until, like, season 3? 4? Something.
Wesley arrived. I like that Wes is in this series, I love his character arc, but this early? I'm watching through my fingers trying not to listen to him being such a berk.
... he tries so hard, and it takes him so long to notice he's been epic fail...
and then he needs all the hugs.
Doyle did the heroic exit thing and I miss him, but this configuration works better. The skill set of knows a guy who knows a guy plus the mission goal of getting Angel socially connected so he doesn't just brood his way back to being evil kind of would have continued to help though.
Best way: keep everyone at once.
