Last night's dreams were firmly into nightmare territory in subject matter, and very squishy biology horror.
The first one was a Stargate variant (complete with Sam Carter and Daniel Jackson). We met a new set of aliens and instead of goa'uld snakes they were little squiggly parasites, hundreds of them, and they infested a host through cuts and scratches, any bleeding injury. They were a sort of collective organism. Once they got implanted and cooperative they were intelligent, but individually they were pretty mindless, and they needed a really smart central processor to bring it all together ie a brain.
I figured this all out watching them first cause a bunch of injuries through throwing someone through smashed glass, then squiggling into their back through the wounds.
I yelled the new data to anyone on comms whilst climbing on top of furniture so I'd at least see them coming. Ended up on top of a wardrobe. Meeting rooms in the SGC are pretty tall.
Thing was, when SG1 got there, I was all tapping Daniel on the shoulder and stuttering about Tok'ra. Because okay, these new guys, they have a sucky biology, this is bad for us, but what are the options? We wipe them all out again? That would be, what, four genocides? Five? Or we make a treaty and stick to it this time. That would be better. And sure we can find hosts, somebody somewhere wants to try anything, especially if super healing is involved, and I'd seen them heal the cuts after themselves on the way in.
Trouble is, the new guys? Not so much interested in treaties. Interested in this nice mountain full of host bodies.
And they start with Sam Carter.
That is going to go really, really badly for someone.
Initially control is shaky as they take what they want from a person, so it wavered between alien bitch queen and Sam Carter, increasingly young, until she's entirely forgotten the Tok'ra and therefore just barely remembers the Stargate program. She was so scared :-(
But meanwhile I'm still pushing, begging really, for them to make a treaty. Because yeah, they just ate the person who knows the most about the SGC defences, but they've got orbital ships with teleporters, they've got scanners sensitive enough to pick out the parasites, and even if that's not in range, they can just throw everyone here into the sun and scorch the base. Nobody is getting out of this alive unless they make friends.
But no, I'm still begging when they just get out a machine gun and gun me down to shut me up.
Which, actually, as ways to go go, I'm okay with. You know, living your principles.
But my last thought was 'this is really unpleasant'.
Okay, second to last thought. Last thought was I needed to commiserate about it with Daniel if I ever woke up.
... because he of all people would know.
So then I died out of the dream and woke up.
... I'll write up the second one later, I'm going to get office supplies now.
Second dream was a dystopia / failed-to-us utopia where they maximised the number of persons on the planet by using the same bodies for several personalities by shifts. And that wasn't the horror part.
But that'll keep.
