The Martian
Mar. 23rd, 2016 05:01 pmToday I finally watched The Martian.
That was a very tense viewing experience. Very. Tense. I was sitting and rocking so much I think that film counted as aerobic exercise. I mean I know the ending and yet several times I wanted to pause it to double check the ending. But I didn't, because that was a ride. Like wow.
*happy eee noises*
Also the cover totally does it no favours. I mean, that makes it look serious. Which, yeah, but.
It also makes it look like it's totally One White Guy, which, ugh, why I nearly didn't watch for so long. But it's full of people. Many and varied people, like black men and women and China did a thing, and everyone has something cool to do in their job area, and people get to be brave and awesome, even while you're sitting there like nonono be less awesome maybe argh *watches through fingers*.
And everyone gets a personality even though they're busy doing their jobs. Like this is going on my shelf of How To Awesome.
And the plot :-D This is why science fiction is the funnest. I mean I end up reading a lot of fantasy too, but science fiction is at its best a fair play puzzle where the results maybe might have real world application. Better than detective stories. And, okay, I know it's science fiction and there's a couple holes, but still. Science! Problem problem problem, and just solve them one at a time.
And none of the stuff I get fed up of in superhero movies where the heroes fight each other. Well, okay, some tension between different people working towards the same goal, but not stupid stuff. Everyone is teams.
I know most people were already *eee* about this when it was in cinema, but, I slow.
This is really good though.
