While rewatching Flash season one a lot of the fun is seeing how
Eo!Wells so very seldom lies.
He knows very well the listener is going to take it the wrong way, and the writers know we know pretty much enough to notice, and it's just so much fun.

Add to that that he's the kind of guy who can sit down and make a fifteen year plan to restore his worst enemy, because necessary
and he's just... he's my favourite
right up until the part where he's also the guy who can lose his temper so bad he needs that fifteen years of fixit work in the first place.

Just broken enough to always villain eventually
but hero enough to push back his own plans as part of spending a year actually saving people
but such a stalker cam creep

... but so good at it.

So every time he misleads by telling the exact truth, that he believes in a better future, that he put himself in the wheelchair (even as much as I hate wheelchair as signifier of evil, in character it's clear from Hartley's episode he needs it), it's just the funnest game, and one he knows he's playing, and expects to 'lose' right on schedule.

Plus there's days that only make sense if he's telling the truth every time he says he's come to care for them all, these ghosts in a timeline he's desperately trying to erase
but he's still the guy who makes sure his victims see their death coming and know exactly who did it
even with someone he claims to love.

He's this wonderfully layered ridiculous creep
and I'm such a villain fan.
*sigh*

And like, by season two it's easiest to figure the bits I actually liked are Harry Wells, but no, there's all this other stuff going on.

So much fun.

Even without getting into the layered identity stuff. Like, what would what he did to himself to become Wells even be like? Is he the same person, after? Just... so many interesting questions, so few solvable by superspeed punching.

Not that I agree with his actions. The more villain-y they are, the more of a problem they are for him. If he'd just kept his temper right at the end the whole thing could have gone very differently. But no, no backup plan, just villain. Tragedy.

... I know it's somewhat more sad bad for the victims, but I meant like classic tragic flaw stuff, he is what he is so he does what he does, and at all the choice points there's off ramps, but no.

And obviously the doing villain stuff is why the story doesn't give him outs he doesn't earn, but, deserve leaves no incentives to change, so I dream on villains actually waking up and deciding it's pretty okay to hero after all.

*double sigh*

... although, I am building up to rewatching Legends of Tomorrow, and I know exactly how the turning hero goes too. This genre, why do i even?

... but for such things there is fanfic.
