The thing about fancying the Doctor is
there is a lot of the Doctor
and if you're into the person, rather than the outsides, there is some variation that might lose your interest, but mostly the Doctor is the Doctor, right?
like falling for book characters and then knowing you're almost certainly going to fancy *whoever* they cast, because you've got a run up.
And weird as it is to get one's fantasy love life recast every few years
it must be a bit weirder right now for straight women
or gay men.

baronjanus: I was searching for the answer, it turns out it's rock and roll. Hugh Dillon Works Well With Others (0 smut and buggery)

But the Doctor(s) personality and body language and everything changes too. It's not just looks, it's speech pattern, it's almost everything that changes, except what, general tragic background and a couple of simplified traits like "don't like to kill humans"? And their memories. Maybe. Even their smell would change.

(personally if I like someone in book, they are more likely to fuck up on casting than cast someone I'd go for. Not sure if it's my fault or Hollywood's)

In an ideal world, such a Doctor would teach people that you can love someone regardless of their gender presentation. Somehow I doubt that will happen in our world.
