So much fan stuff is still on LJ
and just hasn't updated for years

but so much fan stuff is not on LJ any more
nor anywhere else I could find
and that's... not a nice feeling.

This is so true and so sad. A. lost her copy of one of her favorite fanfics (a novel-length story), only to discover that the original posting was gone. It took her weeks of tracking down people in the fandom, following up whenever someone said "I don't have a copy, but I think whatshername might," to finally get a copy. We converted it to PDF and made multiple backups in different media. But not all readers - and not all stories - are so fortunate.

I have saved soooo much crap, but it's so buried in piles and piles of elderly backup hard drives.
