Big Finish Audio Doctor Who: Technophobia
Sep. 26th, 2017 09:28 pmThis one is a full cast audio adventure starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate.
Just from that I was grinning start to finish.
The basic idea is everyone starts to forget how to use tech, quicker if they're smarter. Meaning this is a chance for other skillsets to shine.
Being nice to people, staying organised, lifting heavy things, and driving trains all come in handy.
I'm not sure the middle bit really followed though. I mean, the cleaner went all superstitious because they forgot how the vacuum cleaner works. If the machine is supposed to be shutting down higher brain functions, starting with computers and ending with language itself, then believing a monster did it as the middle stage seems... not quite logical, given this is a universe where a monster regularly does do it. Eh, vacuum cleaners are scary though, glad to hear others noticing.
... not usually lethal. thanks for that...
I also wasn't quite happy with the first or main victim being a woman introduced as the youngest female CEO and brightest mind in tech, right before screwing up all her tech. Like, obviously that follows from the premise, the smartest go first, and the Doctor has many excellently complimentary things to say about her. I just... did not like it.
But Donna saves the day with a really big digger, after the Doctor goes stupid, so fair enough.
I'm really trying to think of things to say about it but mostly just hearing these two again made me :-D and any finer criticism is sort of :-D shaped too.
Ten and Donna!
:-D
