This one mostly didn't work for me. I paused days in the middle because I hadn't found much to hold my interest.
Galatea in Utopia by Nick Wolven is interesting and a bit thinky. Future society where physical appearance is entirely malleable does odd things with gender. Readable, plausible, vaguely dispiriting. But interesting. On balance glad to have read it.
Would like to get out the brain bleach for The Donner Party. Cannibalism, as a ritual of high society, and what people would do to get in. Saw where it was going at the third invitation, the one that said to bring their daughter. It turned out not to be the sort of story where evil gets overthrown or anyone gets what we would think they deserve. Just a horror story. Bit boring really, anyone can state a problem, though this was dressed fancy.
Widdam by Vandana Singh was interesting and sort of poetic and basically left everyone and the planet up a creek but at least with people working for something after.
Aurelia was nasty and forgettable.
Neanderthals was just... a bit of killing and a setting? If a time war looks like biotech reviving other humanities then there's some interesting, but the story wasn't, really.
There were two stories with Equation in the title, I had to look to see which was which, and I've nothing to say about either.
A Feather in Her Cap was an adventure, fair enough but I donlt see how it's fantasy or science fiction.
Jewel of the Heart didn't add up to anything. Dream sequence with repeated resets and no moral to the story. Bored.
As with many things lately I just had the feeling that whatever I was looking for wasn't in this.
But, one good story and some thinks, is some interesting.
