Brotherhood of Blades
Feb. 12th, 2018 07:58 amMore martial arts movies today. But I didn't like the camera work in this one. It was shaky and swooshy and I couldn't say if I liked the fights because they were mostly made of quick cuts and spurting blood.
But I think I liked the story. It follows from the characters, they show their vices and then it looks like a morality tale of the you take one bribe and everything falls apart sort. But then it turns out everything was too rotten from the start and they never had a chance. So tragedy, nastiness, and buckets of blood. All the ingredients really.
And I really liked the costumes. Might be trivial but those I at least got a clear view of. There were most excellent dragons on most of them, and the main guys wore these skirts that were black over color stripes so when they swirled it really popped. Kind of cheerleader but floor length. Some very stylish robes going on.
... okay I probably didnt like the fights as fights if I'm memorising the fashion. But really, super stylish.
I didn't like the roles for women, but there were some women, and one got to fight, and one got to talk back and have opinions, and one was a doctor, so that's something. They just mostly got injured and motivated men. So. That was a not awesome thing.
I need to watch some women do martial arts. I've watched way too many in a row where they just get hurt or ill or something. Blah.
But this movie had bunches of fights and moments of badassery and filled a couple hours pretty okay.
