The bit in the middle of a fic where at least half the pairing is going 'oh no, he could never fancy me', often in the face of all evidence
is not an interesting bit
seeing as we have all clicked on the / and know he does, in fact, fancy him.

I mean I know I'm just being grouchy, the whole yearning/having cycle is fun, but it's specifically the thing where self esteem issues are the only thing in the way, or just... being an utter pillock about noticing.

In the fic I'm reading he has just kissed him already and the point of view character is talking himself out of it. This is not the interesting bit! Be less oblivious!

I get enough of that in real life.

Is this the one I recced? Yeah, a lot of stories would work better for me personally if only people had minimal common sense in them. And, not quite "communication skills" as much as "open your fucking mouth, like, once".

I am reading Harry Potter fic.
Turns out half the pair might have an excuse, as he just revealed he has been blacking out and finding himself somewhere else later and therefore does not necessarily remember everything the reader remembers.
But that just makes it potentially awkward in the consent department instead, so, not an improvement.

but yes in general, actual communication of an even minimal sort could fix so many stories.
