Apr. 23rd, 2018 01:35 amToday I am sidetracked in UK criminal law, specifically what all would show up in a CRB check, which got renamed apparently, DBS check, and what would bar one from a teaching career.
... because Draco Malfoy keeps being potions master at Hogwarts, and it just bothered me, with the things they say he did.
Turns out that's a solid It Depends, https://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/teacher-blog/2013/may/22/convictions-cautions-teaching-job
Not that we've ever seen teacher training be a thing at Hogwarts.
Also I don't know much about criminal justice, especially in the UK.
I know the wizarding world has its own laws, which bothers me also, but I was just thinking that some sort of systematic law probably applies to a situation where people have objections to a criminal teaching.
Not that fic agrees if he is a criminal.
Fic does agree Harry tried to slice him up with an unwisely under researched curse, which is also not behaviour you particularly want in a teacher.
I mean I'm not saying that what people do to defend themselves in war should shut them out of having a nice career after, I'm just saying there's all these legal precedents for actions having consequences, so I tried to look them up. But it turns out there's a reason people have degrees in these things...
oh well. learned some things.

Of course, candidates with very serious convictions; such as murder, robbery with violence, serious sexual assault, dealing in Class A drugs and any at all involving violence against children or vulnerable adults, would normally have been weeded out as 'unsuitable' at an initial DBS check.
Some though, even ones as serious as 'manslaughter in self-defence' might not necessarily be a reason for barring someone from acceptance on a teacher training course.
