Everyone sucks except x stories are never the most interesting
but they are quite bizarre when x is the series bad guy.
I mean if they were saying they agreed with his politics that wold be worrying but coherent
but instead they're writing him all empathetic and supportive
which is
not supported by the text
as I understand it
and also brings him up to having such grand virtues as 'attains minimum requirements'
so they compensate by knocking everyone else down
which... does not really put him in a better light.

That's the basic thing if everyone sucks except barely acceptable x
why not just... get a different everyone?


Way more interesting story is built if you have to show their many excellences to look good next to the whole rest of the alphabet.

Having said that I think I once wrote a short ficlet wherein an anvil fell on Angel and Riley somehow

...but at least it was in-character ;)
